The peptic ulcer is an open sore on the lining of the stomach or duodenum (the upper part of the small intestine). When the ulcer is found in the stomach is known as gastric ulcer when it is found in the duodenum, is known as duodenal ulcer .
Because peptic ulcer can cause serious health problems, it is not recommended to treat an ulcer on your own without first consulting your doctor.
Causes of peptic ulcer
No specific cause has been found for ulcer. What is known is that it results when excess gastric acid, bacteria or drugs damage the lining of the stomach or duodenum.
It has recently been discovered that 80% of cases of gastric ulcers are due to the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). This bacteria is present but inactive in the stomach of some people.
The authors of the book Healing Remedies, Joan and Lydia Wilen, believe that stress, fatigue, anxiety and chronic tension can be responsible for weakening the immune system and activating the bacteria. Based on this information, we could say that some ulcers could be prevented or alleviated by practicing meditation and relaxation exercises.
Other measures to prevent H. pylori infection are:
– Washing hands with soap and water before eating and after using the bathroom
– Eating food that has been washed and well cooked
] – Drinking water from a clean and safe source
Other factors that contribute to the formation of ulcers may be smoking, drinking alcohol, heredity, emotional stress and pain relieving medicines such as ibuprofen (Motrin), Naproxen and aspirin.
The traditional remedy to relieve ulcers: Cabbage juice
A home remedy that has been used for many years to relieve ulcers is cabbage juice. Cabbage contains glutamine which helps the stomach cells regenerate. Glutamine also stimulates the production of mucin, a mucoprotein that protects the lining of the stomach.
Another ingredient that makes cabbage a good remedy for ulcer, is gefarnato. This substance strengthens the lining of the stomach. It is actually an ingredient in ulcer medications.
To prepare the remedy, a juice extractor is used to extract the juice from a cabbage (making sure the cabbage is fresh) and drink one cup before each meal and one cup before bed. Do not prepare the juice in advance and store it in the refrigerator. It should be prepared just before drinking.
